Observational Self Protocol

Observational Self Protocol

This directive is designed for clients who over-identify with their thoughts, roles, or presenting problems. Use it when an individual’s sense of self has become fused with a specific diagnosis, emotion, or life situation, resulting in psychological rigidity. This pattern often presents as a persistent feeling of being stuck, where the client sees their current state as their total identity and has limited access to alternative self-perceptions.

The protocol works by systematically creating distance between the client and their internal experiences. Through a series of guided reflections, it facilitates the development of an observer perspective. This allows the client to see thoughts, feelings, and sensations as transient events they have rather than the essence of who they are. The resulting separation increases psychological flexibility and opens new avenues for effective action.
