Observation Log for 'Positive Data Points' to Counter Negativity Bias

This log requires a client to actively search for and record small positive events each day to.

For the client whose narrative is dominated by what’s going wrong, it’s often a sign of a deeply ingrained negativity bias. They may intellectually agree that good things happen, but their moment-to-moment attention discounts or ignores them entirely. This makes it difficult to build on strengths or generate momentum, as their perception of reality is consistently skewed toward problems and deficits.

This observation task is designed to actively counter that bias between sessions. It requires the client to deliberately scan their environment for specific, positive information, which helps to retrain their default attentional patterns. The client returns not with vague affirmations, but with a concrete record of counter-evidence to their own negative assumptions.

Observation Log for 'Positive Data Points' to Counter Negativity Bias

Your task is to identify and record a minimum of three positive data points each day. A data point is a small, concrete event. It is an observation of something that went well, was pleasant, or functioned correctly.

Examples include: someone held a door open for you, a meeting started on time, you found a parking spot easily, the coffee tasted good, you completed a task without interruption.

Record each event factually, without adding interpretation or analyzing its meaning. Use the log below. Complete it at the same time each day, such as before bed.
